Chicago South Side Sunrise Session - Amber & Andy
When Amber and Andy first reached out, they made one thing clear: they didn’t want the standard, photo session. They were looking for an experience that felt genuinely them—unique, artistic, and entirely different from the norm. Looking back on our morning together, I can safely say we achieved exactly that. In fact, calling this session a career highlight would be an understatement.
Part I: Sunrise at Oakwood Beach
We kicked off bright and early at one of my personal favorite spots along the lakefront: the Oakwood portion of Daniel Burnham Park. I’ve been riding my bike past this stretch for years and I’ve always known it would make an incredible backdrop for the right couple. I was beyond psyched when Amber and Andy were completely on board with starting here.
The morning light did not disappoint. We got that soft, dreamy sunrise glow that only early risers get to see, with the calm lake and the city skyline framing them perfectly.
Part II: Hidden Gems
From the lakefront, we moved to an even more secluded, hidden gem. (In fact, I’m totally gatekeeping this spot…sorry!!)
We headed to a spot that I previously visited on an architectural tour and knew it would make the perfect spot for the right couple. The space is bold, super modern, ultra-artistic, and completely graphic (basically, a photographer’s dream). Amber and Andy brought incredible energy to the space. Their willingness to play with light, shadow, and sleek structural lines turned this portion of the shoot into pure art.
Part III: The Final (And best) Stop
During our very first meeting, Amber casually mentioned that one of their absolute favorite routines is simply grabbing McDonald's and eating it together in their car. So naturally, we couldn't wrap up our epic session any other way.
Sitting in the car, sharing McGriddle’s was the most perfect, unscripted ending to an unforgettable shoot. (they alsogenerously treated me to a egg McMuffin which was amazing, btw!)
Amber and Andy are the exact kind of couple that fuels my creative fire. They are adventurous, completely authentic, and were ready to fully immerse themselves in the entire experience from start to finish. Thank you both for trusting my vision, braving the early morning call time, and reminding me why I love what I do!
